Things to see & do

Beyond the famous view.

Swim, stroll, learn to surf and follow the coast into a different kind of Sydney day.

Beach days

Meet the Pacific on its own terms.

The beach is the main attraction. Plan around conditions and your ability.

01

Bondi Beach

Walk the promenade, settle on the sand or swim in the area marked by red and yellow flags. Ask a lifeguard if you are unsure about conditions.

02

Learn to surf

Book with a qualified surf school rather than tackling unfamiliar waves alone. Confirm the meeting point, equipment, ability requirements and weather policy.

03

North Bondi & the foreshore

Explore the northern end, grassy areas and promenade for a different perspective of the bay. Shallow-looking water can still have strong currents.

The ocean-bath icon

A pool with a Pacific backdrop.

Bondi Icebergs sits at the southern end of the beach, where ocean baths, white water and sandstone create one of Sydney’s most recognisable views.

Check the club’s current pool opening hours, entry charges, cleaning closures and conditions before going. Sea conditions may affect operation; a pool visit is not guaranteed every day.

Bondi to Coogee coastal walk

Take the long way along the ocean.

The full coastal route is about six kilometres one way. Allow two to three hours or longer for photos, breaks and beach stops.

01

A shorter outing

Walk south from Bondi toward Tamarama and Bronte, then return when it suits. Check route notices before setting off.

02

The full coastal experience

Continue past Clovelly and Gordon’s Bay toward Coogee. Plan your return transport rather than assuming you will walk all the way back.

03

Know the terrain

Expect stairs, gradients and exposed sections. Bring water, sun protection and suitable shoes; the full trail is not step-free. Stay behind barriers.

Culture & family time

Build a day beyond swimming.

Plenty of Bondi works well without heading into the water.

01

Bondi Pavilion

Check the Pavilion’s program for exhibitions, performances and community activities in its heritage beachfront setting. Some events require tickets.

02

Promenade & picnic

Pair a foreshore walk with a shaded break and a simple lunch. Supervise children near roads, cliffs and water, even when they are not swimming.

03

Markets & local creativity

Browse Sunday’s market for independent design and vintage finds, or make Saturday’s farmers market part of a morning food adventure.

A little further afield

Make Bondi your Sydney starting point.

These are separate outings beyond Bondi Beach. Check transport and give each room in your schedule.

01

Tamarama, Bronte & Coogee

Follow the eastern beaches for more coastal scenery, cafés and ocean pools. Each beach has its own conditions and patrol arrangements.

02

Centennial Parklands

Swap the surf for open parkland, paths and picnic spaces. Plan transport from Bondi and check permitted activities before visiting.

03

Sydney Harbour & the city

Head to Circular Quay, the Opera House precinct and the Royal Botanic Garden for a city-and-harbour day. There is no direct ferry to Bondi Beach.
